People always ask me how I went from being a police officer to a gym owner. Even though these occupations appear quite different, they both allowed me to do what I love to do — help my community.
Since coming to Minot at the age of 17 and graduating from Minot State in 2018, I’ve been drawn to occupations that help others in need. I started working as a City Cop three days after graduation to scratch that itch. As a cop I also started coaching CrossFit classes. I found fulfillment in helping people achieve things they originally thought they couldn’t. In the Crossfit gym, I was able to combine my passion for fitness with my passion for helping others, so I made it my full time job.
I wanted to create a community of my own that was welcoming, joyful, respectful, and worked their asses off to become the best version of themselves. I wanted to create a place where people enjoy doing fitness together — a place where people genuinely support one another’s goals.
So my team and I built Souris Valley CrossFit. It’s been nothing short of amazing. Our mission at SVCF is:
“Help people inside the Minot community achieve the things they thought they couldn’t so they can Live Stronger and Live Longer”.
When I opened my own gym, I chose the slogan “Live Stronger Live Longer” because that’s what SVCF embodies.
Live Stronger – Physically and Mentally

When you start to take care of yourself from a physical standpoint, it is great because it allows you to do the things you love with confidence. I want you to feel confident enough to pick up your kids and grand kids. The benefits of building muscle is obvious. You will have less health issues, more ease when doing every day tasks, and you will feel better in your own skin — all the science is out there. At SVCF, living stronger isn’t just about building physical strength but mental strength as well.
At SVCF, we want you to experience mental challenges inside the gym so when challenges in life roll around, you can handle them a little easier. In my own life, because I didn’t shy away from the hard workouts, it was easier for me to face hard, and I mean very hard, challenges in life. I learned to confront the things that scared me and attack them head on. When you have the capacity to say “this is going to be tough, but I’ve faced tough before and came out on top,” that’s living stronger. I want you to feel more joy throughout your day because you are proud of yourself for who you are and who you are becoming.
Live Longer

Our brand of fitness is more than strength training; it’s life-extending.
If you cut out processed carbs and sugar and start doing squats, deadlifts, and presses, you’ll Live Stronger. But you’ll also Live Longer. Regular physical exercise is associated with the prevention of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, and respiratory diseases, many of the causes of premature death. You’ll be able to stay independent up to an older age. You’ll have strength and mobility to do things you love for longer. You’ll be younger for longer. And while you’re young, you’ll do more things that you love to do. You’ll play more hockey. You’ll get down on the floor with the kids, and up on your feet to dance. You will go, you will see, and you will conquer. You will live a larger life.
My team and I want be the city’s heart beat for change to live a happier, healthier, longer life.
The Souris Valley CrossFit mission is to help people inside the Minot community achieve the things they thought they couldn’t so they can Live Stronger and Live Longer. What’s your mission?
